Presteigne to Kington

Been unable to get phone signal or internet these last few days but we’re back now !
After the mist yesterday we were both freezing and the B&B was just what the doctor ordered with a warm room, deep hot bath and cosy bed. We came down this morning to a roaring log fire in the breakfast room, lovely. Apparently the farm we were at, Gumma Farm, is one of Morrisons main suppliers of free range chickens and they star in Morrisons latest ‘how we farm’ brochure. The B&B also seemed to have ‘magic’ bathroom scales; they reckoned I had lost a stone and Helen 1.5 stone. Don’t think they are right but we still wanted to take them home with us. Heavy mist again this morning but nothing like as cold as yesterday.

Entrance to Granner Wood

Our fame is spreading 🙂 As we were walking through Granner Wood on Offa’s Dyke we came across a party of volunteer ramblers who were constucting a staircase down one of the steep slopes and as per usual they asked if we were doing the whole of Offa’s. Upon explaining what we were actually doing one of them piped up with ‘Oh yes, we’ve heard about you and wondered if you were coming this way’. Once we had got over the shock it transpired that the gentleman out of the Offa’s Dyke centre yesterday had been talking about us. It quite brightened our day. Also, whilst chatting, a couple of buzzards were hovering around and although I’ve seen plenty of buzzards I think it’s the first time I’ve heard their call (pointed out to us by one of the ramblers). Fantastic !
The mist did eventually clear today and the views once again were spectacular, especially around Herrock Common. We’ve both been very impressed by Offa’s Dyke: it goes through some beautiful countryside and the path is really well signed and maintained.

  1. Ah I was just going to ask you what happened to this part of the route and here it is, thank you!

  2. Hey! Don’t forget to bring those “magic” scales with you! We could do with losing a few pounds ourselves!! Ha ha ha!! xx
